It’s Finally Finished!

Hello! Summer has arrived, but not much has happened due to quarantine. So I made things happen with the release of my new story & social media. I also should mention that the RCA Film Fest was held online.

New Social Media Updates

I’ve changed some things around my social media. I organized which content I should post for each account. With Twitter, I’ll post status updates. For Instagram, I’ll post books and sketches. For Pinterest, I’ll pin my blog posts. And for Reddit, I’ll just get involved in discussions about writing.

My New Short Story

The short story was released a little late during July, but its finally here. It’s about a woman who deals with the guilt of the murder of her boyfriend. I’ll let you discover it yourself.

RCA Film Fest

If you guys don’t know what the RCA Film Festival is, it’s a showcase of short films made by students who attend Rockdale Career Academy or any other school in Rockdale. Due to Covid 19, it was held online. It’s on YouTube for anyone who wants to check out these interesting films. There’s even the website.

Keep Going by Austin Kleon

Keep Going is a self help book by Austin Kleon, the dude who wrote Steal Like an Artist. This book enlightened me on what creativity is all about. It has fantastic advice, creative images, and a great message.

This book is about the ten ways on how you could stay creative. There were tons of advice laid out, such as “creativity is about connection… in order to be inspired and share your own work – but it is also about disconnection” (page 39). I understood this because you would always get inspired by people around you, but you also had to figure out what you saw. Your eyes are a filter.

However, I didn’t always agreed with the advice. In chapter three, Kleon talks about labels and why they are harmful. The example he uses is “if you only consider yourself a ‘painter’, then what happens when you want to try out writing?” (page 66). I thought that this got a little overboard because labels are literally harmless. It’s just an identifier, and humans are multifaceted. If you paint and then write, you could call yourself a painter and a writer. It’s not that serious.

But despite that, Kleon makes this book easy to read. He seems to be an observer for pulling out examples from real life. He uses real people and their stories to tell his points. Every step is listed in detail too. Even his designs are awesome. For the people who want to be more creative, this is for you.

Little Lesson

What I’ve learned during this month is that if you keep doing what you strive for, you’ll get there eventually, no matter how many times you mess up. Perseverance really is key.

Well, that wraps up this month’s post. Please comment on the new story after this. Thank you very much.
